How to keep your skin properly hydrated?
The basis of every skin care routine, regardless of biological age and skin condition, is providing the skin with proper hydration.
The problem of dry skin can manifest itself in many ways and have different causes – therefore, when composing our personalized skin care routine, it is important to consider different types of moisturizing products and how they work.
How do moisturizing cosmetics work?
Although the skin of each face is different and has individual needs, its structure remains unchanged. It consists of subcutaneous tissue, dermis and epidermis, the outermost part of which is the stratum corneum. It is formed by corneocytes, resembling tiny flakes, dead skin cells, whereas the space between them is filled with various fats – lipids. They are responsible for the appearance and condition of the skin. Corneocytes and the lipids that connect them can be compared to the gilding of an icon. In ideal conditions, gold flakes – corneocytes – lie smoothly on the surface of the wood. However, if there is too little glue – lipids – the surface of the image becomes uneven, and the gold cracks or peels off.
So what does the problem of dry skin depend on? On fat or water? Contrary to popular belief, dry skin is caused by a lack of water, not a lack of fat. According to the recommendations of Harvard Medical School, to ensure smoothness and softness of the stratum corneum, it should contain at least 10% of water. In ideal conditions, this amount will vary between 20% and 30%. If the water content in the skin decreases, the corneocytes accumulate and exfoliate. Depending on factors such as diet, gender or age, Harvard experts recommend drinking from 4 to as many as 16 glasses of water a day!
Water is the main ingredient of most moisturizing cosmetics. The stratum corneum absorbs it very well, but does not bind it. Therefore, it needs support in retaining water – ingredients with an occlusive effect, which retain water in the skin and protect it from evaporation. Occlusive ingredients can be waxes, fats or silicones.
Other important elements of moisturizing creams are humectants and emollients. These ingredients help to ensure proper skin hydration. Emollients provide smoothness to the skin. Very often they also have occlusive properties, so they work in two ways, preventing moisture loss and smoothing the skin. Humectants help to accumulate moisture in the stratum corneum of the skin. Their action is also supported by substances with an occlusive effect.
Other ingredients of moisturizing cosmetics complement their formula with valuable substances beneficial to the skin, such as vitamins, antioxidants, valuable acids or ingredients with a soothing effect. Depending on the proportions of moisturizing cosmetics’ components and on the individual properties of ingredients, different creams are dedicated to skin with different needs.
What care does your skin need?
The most characteristic symptoms of dry skin are hypersensitivity and roughness. Dry skin is thin, as if papery, sensitive and irritated. The accompanying feeling of tightness and discomfort can lead to redness, burning, and even cracking, which is why it requires care with creams containing intensively moisturizing formulas. Persons with dry skin should look for rich cosmetics and gentle skin care treatments that strengthen immunity and improve the skin’s barrier function.
Oily skin may seem to be the opposite of dry skin – many people wrongly assume that it does not need hydration. Nothing could be further from the truth. Very often overproduction of sebum is caused by the skin trying to fight dryness and retain the remaining moisture. Persons with oily skin should therefore choose creams with a light formula that do not clog pores, as well as treatments and cosmetics with a normalizing effect. Proper exfoliation should also be included in your skincare routine.
A mix of oily and dry skin is combination skin, in which the skin struggles with the problem of dryness and oiliness in different areas of the face at the same time. Typically, the areas prone to oiliness are the so-called T-zone, i.e. the forehead, nose and chin, and the areas prone to dryness are the cheeks and eye area in particular. In the case of combination skin, dedicated care for the skin around the eyes is especially important, as well as a carefully composed morning and evening care routine. In the morning, you should opt for light creams that do not clog pores, and in the evening, intensive cosmetics with highly concentrated nutrients and a rich formula that support night-time regeneration.
The needs of the skin are also affected by its biological age – mature skin is characterized by reduced productivity of connective tissue cells, responsible for the production of elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid, naturally found in the skin. Systematic care of mature skin and the use of cosmetics with strong moisturizing and anti-wrinkle effects, support skin regeneration processes.
The offer of Dr Irena Eris Cosmetic Institutes includes original treatments dedicated to skin requiring special hydration. Our experts will help you choose care tailored to the individual needs and biological age of your skin.
AQUA IDEALINE hydrating probiotic treatment
We advise this treatment to persons struggling with the problem of dry and sensitive skin. Recommended regardless of age, it restores skin smoothness thanks to the modern combination of probiotic and polyglutamic acid (γ-PGA) enclosed in mesospheres.
Polyglutamic acid has been used in Japan for fifteen centuries, although for most of that time no one was aware of its existence. It is the main ingredient of nattō, fermented soybeans, valued for their rich nutritional content and exceptional health-promoting properties. The hay bacillus responsible for their fermentation process was discovered only in the nineteenth century, and the polyglutamic acid it contains – over a hundred years later. This extraordinary discovery allowed us to obtain an ingredient insensitive to proteases – enzymes responsible for protein degradation. The γ (gamma) form of PGA acid demonstrates the best biocompatibility with the skin. Thanks to this, it hydrates the skin not only intensively but also permanently, maintaining moisture in the skin, with added anti-wrinkle effect. The γ-PGA acid also has a four times greater ability to bind water molecules than hyaluronic acid.
The AQUA IDEALINE treatment also strengthens the skin’s immunity and barrier function, supporting its natural microbiome. Lactobacillus rhamnosus HA-111 contained in PROSYSTEM PROFESSIONAL preparations inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria, including Propionibacterium acnes, which is co-responsible for acne. It also protects the skin from irritation, redness and limits the adhesion and growth of pathogenic microorganisms. Supporting the natural microbiome allows to keep the skin not only beautiful, but also healthy. It promotes wound healing, strengthens the skin’s immunity and maintains its hydrolipid balance.
After just one treatment, the skin becomes visibly smoother and better hydrated. Depending on your needs, the AQUA IDEALINE treatment is performed using selected Hi-Tech technology, such as sonophoresis, needle-free mesotherapy or oxygen infusion. The effects of the treatment can be extended by professional home care from the AQUA IDEALINE Dr Irena Eris PROSYSTEM HOME CARE line. A collection of five cosmetics, rich in EFAs, vitamins A, D, E and minerals, as well as the innovative Probiotix-PGA hydrocomplex, deeply hydrates the skin and activates its renewal processes, while protecting the natural microbiome.

The HYDROGEN FACE MESO-CARE treatment, appreciated by experts, is based on an innovative hydrogen water activator formula. This unique ingredient significantly improves skin hydration and maintains the physiological pH of the epidermis. It also normalizes the action of sebaceous glands, reducing sebum secretion in persons struggling with the problem of acne and imperfections. HYDROGEN FACE MESO-CARE moisturizes, smooths, cleanses and protects the skin against the harmful effects of free radicals, restoring its healthy appearance, elasticity and firmness. Innovative ingredients are accompanied by the beneficial effects of HI-TECH technology – enzymatic-hydrogen hydrabrasion or LED hydrogen cavitation, recommended by the cosmetologist based on the individual needs of the client’s skin.
After just one treatment, you can enjoy a visible smoothing of the skin, a reduction of oiliness, a feeling of cleanliness and refreshment, as well as improvement of tone and reduced visibility of pores.
